Ken is right. If you leave the petcock on prime you will end up with a crankcase full of gas. Not good. If you are forced to run on prime because of a vacuum problem, remember to switch back to run when you shut the engine off and get your vacuum fixed ASAP. The old bikes used to have an off position but the new (1980+) bikes don't. Also, most bikes will flood if you try to run them on prime.
